Nocta
Sleep smart through every shift.
Every feature, from the first launch.
No account, no login, no cloud. Everything runs on your device and works fully offline — nothing in this post is hidden behind a wall.
What Nocta does
Nocta is a circadian-aware shift planner for the 15 million Americans who work non-traditional hours — nurses, EMTs, firefighters, factory workers, pilots, truck drivers.
The science of when to sleep, when to stop drinking coffee, when to get bright light, and when to take melatonin is well-established. The problem is nobody's packaged it as a calm, account-free, one-time-purchase iPhone app — the leading product (Timeshifter) is $69.99/yr subscription and cloud-tied.
Nocta fixes that.
— Tap to add a shift, or pick from built-in rotation templates (3-on/4-off for nurses, Kelly schedule for firefighters, rotating fortnights, pilot duty days). — Nocta calculates your personalized day-by-day plan: anchor sleep window, caffeine cutoff time, melatonin window (if you take it), bright-light timing. — Calm passive cards on the home screen. No alarms. 'Coffee cutoff in 4h. Anchor sleep window: 14:00–17:00.' — Weekly PDF export: hand it to your partner so they don't wake you during sleep windows. — No account. No email. No data leaves your phone. One-time $9.99.
The science is published in PubMed, AASM clinical guidelines, and Harvard circadian research. Nocta encodes the rules deterministically — no AI, no cloud inference, no surprises. We're not a medical device; we're a planning tool that respects published science.
For every nurse who has ever stared at the bathroom ceiling at 3pm wondering why they can't fall asleep before a night shift, Nocta is the calm, private, one-time tool that finally treats you as the expert in your own life.

What's inside
- Shift roster + templates — Add a shift with start/end time and date. Or one-tap apply a built-in rotation template (3-night/4-day nurse rotation, Kelly schedule firefighter, rotating fortnights oil rig, pilot duty days). Edit any shift after applying a template.
- Daily circadian plan — Home screen shows today's plan: anchor sleep window, caffeine cutoff time, bright-light window, melatonin window (if enabled). Rules are calculated locally from published circadian science — no AI, no cloud.
- Calm notification digest — Single configurable summary notification 2h before each transition (sleep, caffeine cutoff, etc.). No nag alarms. Disable any category.
- Weekly PDF export — One-tap export of the week's shift schedule + circadian plan as a clean printable PDF + CSV. Share via AirDrop to your partner so they know when not to wake you.
- Adherence log + stats — Track when you actually slept vs the plan, when you actually had coffee vs the cutoff. Light, optional. Visible as a weekly trend strip.
Why we built it
15M+ Americans work shifts that disrupt circadian rhythm and increase cardiovascular, metabolic, and mood disorder risk by 30-40% (NIH StatPearls 2024). Published circadian science (anchor sleep, caffeine cutoff, light exposure) is well-known but not packaged as a calm, one-time-purchase iPhone app. The leading produc…
What makes it different
Nocta is the only circadian shift planner that is (a) one-time $9.99 vs Timeshifter $69.99/yr, (b) zero account, zero cloud, zero email — all rules execute on-device, (c) calm passive notification UX vs nag-style alarms, (d) built-in rotation templates for common nurse/firefighter/pilot schedules, (f) iCloud Family Sy…
Who it's for
Anyone who wants honest tracking without a coach, a subscription, or a streak guilting them at 11pm.
In one line: Sleep smart through every shift.
